It borders <a href=\"http:\/\/worldclock.com\/asia\/kazakhstan\/\">Kazakhstan<\/a> to the north, <a href=\"http:\/\/worldclock.com\/asia\/uzbekistan\/\">Uzbekistan<\/a> to the west, <a href=\"http:\/\/worldclock.com\/asia\/tajikistan\/\">Tajikistan<\/a> to the southwest and <a href=\"http:\/\/worldclock.com\/asia\/china\/\">China<\/a> to the southeast. Its capital city is <a href=\"http:\/\/worldclock.com\/asia\/kyrgyzstan\/time-in-bishkek\/\">Bishkek<\/a>. It was annexed by <a href=\"http:\/\/worldclock.com\/europe\/russia\/\">Russia<\/a> in 1876, then it became part of the Soviet Union, from which it finally achieved independence in 1991.<br \/>\nKyrgyzstan has a rich history, which spans over 2,000 years, having been the home for many cultures and empires. Although its rough terrain renders gives it a sense of isolation from the rest of the world, Kyrgyzstan has historically been a crossroads of great civilizations that as part of the fabled Silk Road.<br \/>\nKyrgyzstan is not a paradigm of government stability.
