Full moon names

The traditional names come from Native American, Colonial American and European folklore and describe the season: the Wolf Moon of January, Snow Moon (February), Worm Moon (March), Pink Moon (April), Flower Moon (May), Strawberry Moon (June), Buck Moon (July), Sturgeon Moon (August), Corn Moon (September), Hunter’s Moon (October), Beaver Moon (November) and Cold Moon (December). A supermoon is a full moon near perigee, the closest point of the moon’s orbit – here, closer than 361,000 km. It looks up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than a full moon at apogee. A blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month, which happens about every two to three years.
