To find the time between two clock times, subtract the start from the end. If the end time is earlier than the start – a night shift from 22:00 to 06:00, for example – the calculator assumes it is the next day and adds 24 hours, giving 8 hours.
Results are shown in hours and minutes, in decimal hours (for timesheets and billing) and in total minutes.

How many hours is 9am to 5pm?
9am to 5pm is 8 hours. With a one-hour unpaid lunch break it is 7 hours of work.
How do I calculate hours for an overnight shift?
Count the hours to midnight and add the hours after midnight. 10pm to 6am is 2 + 6 = 8 hours. The calculator does this automatically when the end time is earlier than the start time.
