How the Pomodoro technique works
- Pick one task and focus on it for 25 minutes – one “pomodoro”.
- Take a 5-minute break: stand up, stretch, get a drink.
- After four pomodoros, take a longer 15–30 minute break.
The technique was developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s and is named after his tomato-shaped kitchen timer. Short, timed sprints make big tasks less daunting and the regular breaks help you stay fresh. Every time can be changed under Settings; your settings are saved on this device.
Frequently asked questions
How long is a Pomodoro?
A classic Pomodoro is 25 minutes of focused work followed by a 5-minute break. After four Pomodoros you take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes.
Will I hear the timer in another tab?
Yes. A chime plays when each session ends, the remaining time is shown in the browser tab, and if you allow notifications you also get a pop-up message.
