Golden hour and blue hour
Golden hour is the time just after sunrise and just before sunset when the sun is low – less than 6° above the horizon. The light is soft, warm and directional, with long shadows: ideal for portraits and landscapes.
Blue hour happens when the sun is between 4° and 6° below the horizon, shortly before sunrise and after sunset. The sky turns a deep blue and city lights balance with the sky – perfect for cityscapes.
Near the equator both last only around 20–25 minutes; at high latitudes in summer they can last for hours.
