About Kathmandu
Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal and the gateway to the Himalayas, the starting point for most trekking and mountaineering expeditions, including trips to the Everest region. The Kathmandu Valley is rich in temples, stupas and royal squares, several of which are UNESCO-listed World Heritage sites.
Nepal uses Nepal Time at UTC+5:45, one of the very few time zones offset by 45 minutes. That puts Kathmandu just 15 minutes ahead of India. There is no daylight saving, so the offset stays the same all year. Saturday is the main weekly holiday in Nepal, so many offices are closed then rather than on Sunday.
