About Sofia

Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria and its political, economic and cultural centre, set at the foot of Vitosha mountain, which provides hiking and skiing close to the city. It is known for the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Roman remains in the centre and a growing technology and outsourcing sector.

Bulgaria uses Eastern European Time: UTC+2 in winter and UTC+3 in summer after the clocks go forward. Sofia is one hour ahead of most of Central Europe, including Belgrade and Berlin, and two hours ahead of London. It shares its time with Bucharest and Athens, so travel across the Balkans can involve a time change at the border.
